Birthday week has begun…

No, not my birthday week, my little boys πŸ™‚ He will be four soon and this week my whole family will arrive to have his party on the weekend. When people are here food gets tricky for me, I see it as a big part of the celebration, as one of the most important elements. When people are visiting I like to eat whatever I want and not feel bad about it. So, birthday week has begun. Today I ate chocolate cake…….

My juicing in the past week has gone ok, a couple of little slip ups, but nothing huge and crazy. I’ve still had juice each day, and managed to lose 3 kilos, go me!! So the plan is, have little bits of celebrating, make some big pots of vegetable soup, and have snacks ready to go that are veggies or fruits. And that is my plan.

I’ve also been going through one of my favourite cookbooks in the past couple of days. It’s this:

10297612_10152288090688961_2742026577436483822_n

I never know what to eat when I get to winter, so I pretty much make the same three things, all winter. Thats probably not so great!! I’m thinking after juicing (cause this wont last forever) of really embracing my outlook of ‘as close to nature as possible’. I don’t always do this, I fall into bad habits of buying processed, silly foods when really it’s so simple to get the most nutrients out of whole, local and seasonal foods. So I am about to teach myself a whole new way of cooking that I haven’t really gone into before: using whats available and in season. I love when I juice fast, things that I wouldn’t normally want to eat become so attractive looking and my taste buds yell out for them, like the big plate of garlic mushrooms I saw the other day. Oh, I wanted them so much!!!

So when people look at me like I have two heads when I say I’m on a juice fast, there are more benefits for me than just weight loss or being special and annoying ha ha ha ha. It really does hit a ‘reset’ button, and clears my mind to take on a whole new way of thinking.

Also, I don’t know you you guys are fans of Jess Ainscough (you have seen me post about her and her book before, I really like her) but she has posted in her blog lately about Jon Gabriel and the Gabriel Code. I got this program a little while back when I was finding it hard to control my stress and anxiety, especially when I was eating badly to find energy while studying, and it wasn’t doing me any good at all. Jon Gabriels’ program introduced me to a different level of calm that I hadn’t really gotten before, I find it funny that when I see his interviews on Food Matters or blogs I instantly relax, it’s so weird, his voice just has this hypnotising thing going on πŸ˜€ But yeah, I recommend having a look into what he does. I’m really not sure if the program ‘melts away the kilos’ or not but wow, on the visualisation and meditating side of things, it definitely does help.

On that note, I have a big day of party prep, cooking and uni lectures ahead of me tomorrow, I’m off to have a listen of my night time visualisation, and have a great sleep πŸ™‚

Day two reboot: Is it juice time yet?

So day two wasn’t as good as day one. Similar food, but I had to change some things around, I’m a textural eater, I like crunchy things, so all of these soft vegetables I ate today had a bit of a gag factor for me. I did add a tortilla because dinner was not going to do it for me today, I actually would have rathered a juice, bring on the juicing!!!!!!

So todays food:

Same breakfast as yesterday. I was totally right about the sultanas. Blerk.

IMG_5407

Morning and afternoon teas were the greenest juice ever, and so yum!! Kale, cucumber, celery and pear, this one was GOOD πŸ˜€ Threw some chia seeds in for a few omegas, I highly recommend this juice:

IMG_5420

Lunch and dinner, not so great. Was supposed to have a raw carrot and ginger soup, but i had sweet potato left from yesterday, so thought I better not waste it, so I made the chips again. Then I put avocado on top. Ate about a third before I hated it, and put it in the fridge to invent something for dinner.

IMG_5423

And invent I did. Enter a tortilla (definitely not on the list, but needed the crunch or I was going to eat something really bad…)

Put the sweet potato and avocado, leftover coleslaw from yesterday, and chopped up half a tomato and some onion, wrapped it up and toasted. Did the job (like, I’m full) and didn’t make me gag from soft vegetables, also not bad….

Looking forward to tomorrow when there is more juice involved, yay!!!!!!!

Oh, and this happened today. Im all set, exciting!!!!!!!!!

Happy 2014…. Thirteen days late :)

Happy New Year everyone!!!!!! I am always excited about a new year, always have been. Its time to set new goals, feel refreshed, put the previous year behind you and go go go πŸ˜€

I am a little late on starting 2014, I have been really unwell. I had planned out this whole juice fast, a total cleanse to start the new year. Unfortunately my body had other plans, and one day into it my ovaries decided to rupture themselves a cyst and boom, there went the juice fast 😦 If you don’t know much about this fun little thing called PCOS, basically, cysts grow inside your ovaries and at any given moment they can explode (ok, I’m being dramatic, they don’t exactly explode) leading to massive pain not unlike the pain I experienced during my 3 day labour (no, that’s not me being dramatic again, that happened, and it was totally what this felt like). I went to the hospital and was given the gas I had when I actually was in labour, some morphine, Endone, and a bunch of other stuff. On a good day I take nothing, on a bad day I may take a regular old Nurofen (ibuprofen) so to have all of these in my body made me sooooo sick, and I couldn’t even sip water and keep it in for over 24 hours. So today is the 13th of January…. I’m feeling better and am ready to start my year.

I am feeling much better, my head is clear, I have had my relax (so relaxed I ate MEAT, hmmmm) and I’m ready to go. Have all my juicing ingredients ready, I have my Lugol’s solution (iodine), my psyllium, lots of herbal teas and am getting a scoby from a friend to start my own kombucha!! So exciting πŸ˜€ (more about kombucha later).

So if you haven’t heard much about juice fasting, this is pretty much the go: I will be having only fresh fruit juices for the next 60 days. Why 60 days? It does seem like an insanely long time, but rest assured I have my doctors approval. I have some very stubborn weight that just won’t shift, and its been probably a year that I have plateaued. Its getting very frustrating, and if you have read previous posts, my doctor had said, much to my dislike, that I am really going to have to shock my body big time to get it going again. So not taking his suggestion of meal replacement shakes (no way I’m drinking that toxic crap again) and talked him into saying yes on the juice, where I will get ACTUAL nutrients, not just synthetic junk made in a factory. I want to stress right now, DO NOT ATTEMPT WHAT I’M DOING WITHOUT A DOCTOR SAYING OK. To learn more watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XDSpuMIMPs

I’m going to post another blog tonight outlining what I’ve had all day, and more about how it will affect me, and why juice fasting is so good πŸ™‚ I did a smaller juice fast at the start of last year, and am so glad I did, it was really beneficial for me especially in resetting my taste buds and habits.

Anyway, more to come later πŸ™‚Β Happy New Year everyone!!!!!!

New recipe: Non-chicken and sweetcorn soup

I loved chicken and corn soup. It was my go-to meal with spring rolls to dunk whenever I used to have Chinese food. Its the best.Β  But not many places make just corn soup, without having a million other non-vegetarian things in it. So I looked up a few recipes, and found one that I could just leave the chicken out of, and guess what. Its perfect. I made a few tiny little changes, but for about half an hour today I was talking myself up to anyone that would listen about how good my soup was, just like at the shop, but vegetarian.

So to start with, I want to talk about the stock. How do you have chicken and corn soup that tastes like the real thing, but is vegetarian? Well, actually, if you omit the egg white, it would be vegan, how about that!! I use Massel stock, which is vegetable based, gluten free, lactose free and a whole bunch of other ‘frees’ so its the one I always use, and tastes super good πŸ™‚ You can get salt reduced too, which I did. This is the link if you want more info on it: http://www.massel.com.au/products/liquid-stock/

So the recipe is this:

IMG_3155

1 litre of Massel Chicken Stock

1 tablespoon of kecap manis or soy sauce

1 teaspoon finely chopped ginger

2 tablespoons cornflour

1/4 cup of water

1 can creamed corn

1 can corn kernels

1 egg white, lightly beaten (omit of vegan)

3 spring onions, finely chopped

Pour the stock into a large saucepan and heat on medium, do not boil. Add the kecap manis (or soy) and the ginger. Put one tablespoon of the cornflour and all of the water into a bowl and stir, then add to the stock. Turn the heat up and continue stirring until the soup thickens. If it doesnt, sprinkle the second tablespoon of cornflour over the top and mix in. Lower the heat back to medium.Add the creamed corn and corn kernels, stir, and simmer for about 5 minutes. Whisk the egg white, then slowly pour it into the soup in thin drizzles while stirring gently, this makes the ‘chickeny’ look to the soup. Continue to cook until the egg turns stringy and white. Add the spring onions and cook for another 2 minutes, then serve.

As with most of my cooking, this tastes even better once its sits for a while, to get that corn flavour going though it. Hope u like it!!!!! Running it through the calorie counter, if you divide this into 6 bowls it works out at 118 calories/495kJ a serve. Even if you divide it amongst 4 really big bowls you are still only getting 177 calories a bowl. Thats a bit awesome πŸ˜€ There is a bit of salt in this, so make sure you choose low sodium varieties of the soy, creamed corn and the stock.

So, I hope you like it!!!

As for the rest of my day, I spent it cooking vegetables, making raw cacao chocolate with raw peanuts, chia seeds and dried cranberries chopped up into it, watered my super cute little sprouts:

IMG_3152

Totally loving growing them, I don’t have much patience so the fact these are about 5 days old and already good to go is a big plus in my book ha ha ha ha

Plus, Ive been playing with my new juicer. Yes, it arrived, so sparkly and new and awesome, best juicer ever!! Even though I had the model before it, this one kicks its butt, gets rid of foam, and makes the juice so smooth and yum, loving it HEAPS πŸ˜€

IMG_3131IMG_3130

Am so very, very happy with this one πŸ˜€

Oh, and I also managed a 540 calorie workout on the cross trainer. Had a good day πŸ˜€

Hoping for another just like it tomorrow πŸ™‚

xx

Day One Hundred and Seventeen: Facebook problems….

I have decided that there are sooo many awesome things I see in Facebook land every day to do with nutrition, beautiful recipes and photos, lots of inspirational stuff, that I would start a Facebook page and link it to this, so even if I don’t get on here so often, I am still posting somewhere, and Facebook is super easy for me to do from my phone, anytime πŸ˜€

So I go to sign up for a page, I already have two other unrelated ones, and I remembered it being pretty easy. Someone must have changed something, because I’ve been sitting here looking at this for half an hour getting pretty mad, and also gaining a pretty decent headache. Long story short, I have worked out the problem, and now need a big bottle of water and a pain-killer, but it will be up and running hopefully by tomorrow. I’ll post the link here once its ready, so come over to Facebook land and say hi πŸ˜€ Yay exciting!!!!

Things have been going ok, it’s getting to the end of the session, still a lot of work to do before exams, not stressing yet though thankfully. Oh… and its nearly my birthday πŸ™‚ I can’t wait. I am seriously staying awake at night thinking about this cake though, if I haven’t mentioned it before, I am making myself a bit of a showstopper this year, the Adriano Zumbo V8 cake. Yes, it has absolutely nothing to do with being raw, healthy or anything but being super self-indulgent and show-offy, but its my birthday and my rules say I will do whatever I want, so ner πŸ˜‰

For people who don’t know what that is, check this out: http://www.masterchef.com.au/recipes/zumbo-v8-cake.htm

Yes, I am a crazy person ha ha ha ha ha But I want it to work sooooooo bad!!!!!! The only thing I’m not making is the water droplets on the top, because I’m not paying $20 for one ingredient, that is just how it is. So I will make up something else thats cool. I might not even make the flower just like that, I’m thinking of something that will fit in with my afternoon tea theme a little better than that, we will see πŸ™‚Β Sneak peak of my theme…..

Anyways, I will be back tomorrow with the new Facebook page!!!!!!!! Hope to see you all there πŸ˜‰

Day Eleven: Going pretty good today!

Not doing too badly. Am feeling pretty positive about how I’m going right now πŸ™‚ Which is a change, because by day eleven I would normally be GIVE ME ALL THE FOOD, NOW!!!!

But not today, I’m still having little bits of things that were ‘my old life’ and finding myself not really enjoying them like I used to. I actually find myself wanting a healthier snack or food. That makes me excited, like I can do this πŸ˜€ Like when I decided I wouldn’t have meat products any more, I was reminded tonight by reading Facebook that I tried to become vegetarian last year, and it was a massive fail. I thought yeah, I can do this, I already drink soy milk (which now Ive found is a BIG NO NO and had to swap to oat)Β  so I thought yup, easy. So I did what I guess a lot of non veggie peeps do: chuck in a bunch of tofu instead of whatever meat I would normally eat, and there you go. Guess what. Tofu sucks. I hated it. I lasted about a week and a half I think, and I hated it. So that was a bit of a fail. This time though is different. I think I started going off meat around Christmas time last year, had some for Christmas, but after jumped straight back in to being meat free. I did have some at uni because the gluten free vegetarian option was not particularly appetising at times, so a chicken salad was sometimes the best for the energy I need out there, but will be different this next time now that I’m used to what I need to eat now πŸ™‚

So big news today, I bought a (replica) Vitamix πŸ˜€ Yes, a replica, some of my friends were on fb were raving about how awesome it was, and with the demise of my Magic Bullet blender last week I have been looking for something to replace it, so I bought one πŸ˜€ Cant wait for it to arrive, so many things I want to make!!!!!!!

SO food for today, it wasn’t perfect, but it did allow me some revelations πŸ™‚ Breakfast was toast (Ive given up taking the photo of the toast, you all know what it looks like), then a decaf cappuccino at the cafe down the street. I love going out but I love the Campos swisse water decaffeinated beans that we love so much more!!!! Continue reading

Day Nine and Ten: A lesson well learned….

Well you may have noticed a lack of a blog entry yesterday. Well, um, I didn’t want to post my dinner. That was why. I didn’t take a photo of it, I pretended I didn’t eat it. My stomach for a few hours after said otherwise, and I was going to be sick. I have learned my lesson and it wont happen again. I ate chips. And BATTERED FISH. OMG. Oily takeaway food, that I thought about for a long time before I ate it. Then laziness grabbed hold and instead of making my wrap which I was all set to eat, I said yes, ok, takeaway sounds like a good idea. WRONG WRONG WRONG DAISY!!!!!!! I ate about 3/4 of what I had ordered and put it down so fast because I thought I was going to have to run into the bathroom to be sick. I have never had a reaction like that before from food in my life. Not even when I was huge and would eat an entire pizza before stashing evidence in the bin outside so my husband wouldn’t see. I was totally functional after pizza. But last night…. no. I sipped lemon water half the night trying to restore some balance, and felt revolting. Lesson learned 😦

Up until I ate that, this was my day yesterday:

IMG_0696Kale, celery, cucumber, green apple juice

IMG_0698Moroccan pumpkin dip with rice crackers

IMG_0699Tomato, onion and cheese (looks like theres heaps but there was hardly any!!)

and then the DEMON FOOD. And I mean it, NEVER AGAIN. Continue reading
